Hi there!

I'm Aya Kitajima, a UX/UI Designer based in the Bay Area, CA. My background in psychology and experience as an educator support my creative problem solving skills with a strong foundation of intention, imagination, and storytelling.

What Makes Me Different?

Refined Empathy

Having provided workshops to 200+ people on active listening and preventing sexual/domestic violence, I have honed the ability to not only listen and understand, but to anticipate and navigate triggering issues that often derail teams. This allows me to identify and address root paint points effectively while building cohesion along the way.

Creative Versatility

For as long as I can remember, I have been passionate about illustration. I painted everything from brochure covers to shirt designs to huge 12 ft marching band props. This fuels my passion for visual design and branding, while allowing me to quickly adapt, rapidly iterate, and develop custom UI components across mediums.

Stakeholder Management

Through my various experiences working on teams in different fields, I have learned that communication and consideration are the key ingredients to a successful project when working with stakeholders. I take pride in my ability to efficiently understand stakeholder needs, navigate various expectations, and anticipate potential roadblocks before they become a bigger issue.

Navigating Accessibility

With a psychology degree, experience supporting a high school psychologist, and having worked for the Disability Resource Center at UCSC, I'm highly familiar with thoroughly considering and designing for people with disabilities and underrepresented users by identifying potential needs and roadblocks and providing solutions that make designs inclusive.
